Forage & Pasture Audits
A livestock investment is only as sound as the grass under the animals' feet. We underwrite forage carrying capacity and mandate drought contingencies before approving any grazing project.
Mandatory Underwriting Checklist
- Carrying capacity underwritten to ≤80% of historical NRCS forage baseline
- Documented rotational grazing plan preventing overgrazing and root system degradation
- Mandatory 60-day supplemental hay and protein reserve stored on-site or contracted
- Periodic satellite NDVI vegetative index telemetry tracking rangeland moisture
1. Animal Unit Month (AUM) Underwriting
Carrying capacity is calculated using standard USDA-NRCS Animal Unit Month (AUM) benchmarks. Rather than permitting operators to stock at peak forage capacity, Rodeo Capital limits syndicate allocations to a conservative 80% ceiling, providing an operational buffer against unexpected dry spells.
2. Soil & Forage Composition Surveys
Independent range consultants inspect target pastures to verify:
- •Dominant grass species (e.g., native tallgrass, bermudagrass, blue grama, buffalo grass) and crude protein content.
- •Residual dry matter (RDM) levels to guarantee adequate ground cover and erosion prevention.
- •Absence of toxic plants, such as locoweed, nightshade, or excessive oak shinnery.
- •Fencing integrity and interior cross-fencing for planned rotational grazing.
3. Drought Contingency Mandates
Every grazing syndicate agreement includes an enforceable Drought Action Plan. If precipitation falls below 60% of median for 60 consecutive days, the operator is contractually required to activate pre-funded hay reserves or begin early, orderly destocking to protect investor capital.
4. Satellite Vegetation Monitoring
We integrate Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) satellite imagery to monitor pasture vigor throughout the syndicate cycle, giving our operations team early warning of regional forage deficits.
