Mortality Insurance Standards
Biological animals carry mortality risk. Rodeo Capital enforces comprehensive broad-form animal mortality underwriting and mandatory operator reserve requirements across all syndicate assets.
Mandatory Underwriting Checklist
- Broad-form mortality insurance covering death from natural causes, disease, and accident
- Named perils endorsement covering lightning, windstorm, flood, and transit collision
- Mandatory 24-hour veterinary post-mortem inspection for any deceased livestock
- Operator-held 5% first-loss reserve tranche aligning rancher incentives
1. Comprehensive Underwriting Scope
Every livestock syndicate requires an active mortality binder issued by recognized agricultural insurance syndicates (e.g., Lloyd's Agricultural, Travelers Agribusiness, or Great American Insurance Group). Policies protect the insurable value of the herd against unexpected disease outbreaks, severe weather, and transit accidents.
2. Covered Perils & Exclusions
Standard platform policies cover death directly resulting from:
- •Biological illness, bloat, respiratory disease (BRD), and acute infections.
- •Natural catastrophic weather events, including blizzard freeze, flash flood, and lightning strike.
- •Transit accidents during certified livestock transport carrier movement.
- •Predator attacks on pastured small ruminants (sheep & goats) when equipped with guardian animals.
3. Post-Mortem & Telemetry Logging
In the event of an animal death, operators must immediately flag the ear tag in the platform telemetry within 24 hours. A licensed veterinary necropsy or state brand inspector affidavit must confirm cause of death prior to insurance reimbursement settlement.
4. Capital Protection Structure
Insurance proceeds are payable directly to the syndicate Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) escrow account, ensuring investor capital is protected and distributed to fractional owners without comingling with general operator funds.
